Embryo Protection Act - Kinderwunschzentrum

Embryo Protection Act

Embryo Protection Act has been applicable in Germany since 1990.

It regulates for what purpose and in what way embryos may be handled. Only specially trained doctors are permitted to offer artificial insemination. Artificial insemination may be performed only for the purpose of inducing a pregnancy in the woman who the ovum is from. In these procedures, the number of fertilised ovum cells that mature into embryos in the laboratories may not exceed that of those that are transferred to the woman during a treatment attempt. No more than three embryos may be stored per treatment attempt. Sex selection, ovum donation, and surrogacy are prohibited. There is a complete ban on embryonic research.

The responsible handling of ovum and sperm cells has the highest priority for us.
